There are many issues that the ‘City Beautiful’ is currently facing. Be it traffic snarls, rising pollution levels, use of plastic bags, smoking in public, parking of vehicles, increasing surface level of roads, flooding of roads, law and order situation, garbage problems, vendor menace… the list is endless. Taking an initiative to address these issues on a larger level and address them together as a community, the Second Innings Association (SIA) is organising a talk on ‘Save Chandigarh’ on December 23, 2018 at UT Guest House. The talk will start at 3 pm with Chandigarh mayor Davesh Moudgil as chief guest and Vivek Atray, retired IAS officer, as guest of honour.
SIA has taken this initiative to talk to people of Chandigarh regarding steps which are needed for restoring the city to its ‘beautiful and peaceful’ nature. There are many opinions on the various issues. Through this initiative, SIA would like to motivate a large number of experienced and young residents to come forward and make a self-help group. “We need to make efforts and do our bit to make our life better, secure our future and save the very character of Chandigarh,” stated an official of SIA.
Since its inception in 2017, SIA has been highlighting issues relating to social life and concerning Chandigarh by organising seminars and discussion sessions. “Our endeavor has been to take up relevant issues, put forth ideas and work for their accomplishment by coordinating with the concerned authorities and eliciting desired help from the administrative machinery,” states the official. The administrative machinery includes the Union Territory Administration and the constitutionally formed entity, Municipal Corporation.
So if you feel for the city and are keen to make a difference, you can attend the talk that is open to all.
